With Fully-Managed Models on the Rise, Do Third-Party Warehouses Still Have a Place?

Fully-managed solves the 'can't operate' problem, but hands over control of inventory and fulfillment. The value of third-party warehouses is being redefined.

The expansion of fully-managed models from Temu, SHEIN and others led some to ask: are third-party overseas warehouses being squeezed out?

What fully-managed solves

For factory-type and wide-assortment sellers who "don't want to or can't operate," fully-managed takes selection, pricing, and fulfillment off their hands — genuinely easier. It solves the "get from 0 to 1" problem.

What third-party warehouses are not replaced for

  • Multi-channel sellers: selling on Amazon, a standalone site, and TikTok Shop at once need a unified inventory view; fully-managed works in silos
  • Branded sellers: want control over fulfillment experience, returns handling, and resale, and won't fully hand fulfillment to a platform
  • Oversized / special items: outside the standard-parcel scope of fully-managed, still need a specialist warehouse
Fully-managed is "operates for you"; a third-party warehouse is "fulfills for you." The seller types they serve are not exactly the same.

Conclusion

The opportunity for third-party warehouses is moving from "generic shipping" to "multi-channel inventory hub + value-added services." Whoever deepens system integration and stabilizes exception handling is harder to replace.
