The 'handling fee' on the quote is just the tip. Inbound, storage, returns, labeling, last-mile — each can eat your profit.

Many sellers calculate dropshipping counting only "handling fee per order." But the real cost hides in the lines the quote didn't write.

Easily-missed costs

  • Inbound fee: by box or by piece, charged on bulk inbound
  • Storage fee: monthly or by volume, slow-moving inventory quietly eats money
  • Return handling fee: inspection and re-shelving all need labor
  • Value-added operation fee: labeling, relabeling, consolidation billed separately
  • Last-mile freight: often a much larger share than handling fee

How to calculate so you don't lose

Spread one order's "head freight + inbound + storage allocation + handling + last-mile + possible returns" all out, then compare with selling price and platform commission — that's real gross margin.

Counting only handling fee is seeing just the tip of the iceberg.

Build a per-SKU cost table and fill in each item above. Once clear, raise price where needed, switch warehouse where needed — decisions have a basis.
